Extended Deck Renovation
This deck was smaller than the client liked and also just didn’t feel sturdy.
It probably wasn’t going to fall down anytime soon but it was missing connections and had a bounce to it that was discomforting. The stairs were under-built but again, probably weren’t going to fall down but man did they feel shoddy. The stairs and landing were torn out to accommodate the new design.
We came in and shored up the deck and made it feel much more solid. We added metal connectors and ties at the beams and joists, more ledger screws, and mid-span blocking. We re-plumbed the posts and beam and secured the posts to their piers.
To get the additional room on the deck we extended the beam and built out about 5′ to a new landing. We built another beam to support the landing and built beefy doubled-up stringer stairs with blocking.
We added a gate to the deck to keep the dogs up with the clients and off the stairs.
