This project was over a year in the making. Our client had just purchased a unique home with a rotten, poorly built, roof-top deck. It was an odd deck for certain, not an after-thought, but not well planned (at least not made to last), and definitely in a unique location on top of a 3+ story house.
This experience is epic.
The view and experience up there had so much potential. We started designing and came up with some really good solutions towards a long-lasting and safe and comfortable experience. So much was decided around longevity as well as looks. Construction started in January of 2022 and we completed construction on-time and on-budget in March.
Access is from a cantilevered balcony built into the structure of the house, reinforced at the location of the spiral staircase.

The initial experience of the deck is delayed by a mahogany wall.
Once on the main deck the view opens up.
The mahogony wall and the staircase are on one side of the deck.
The deck is 50′ long and 10′ wide which makes for an expansive space.
The rest of the railings are powerder coated black stainless steel with horizontal stainless steel wire rope.
The cable rail hardware is by Muzata; they have a bunch of designs for different purposes but this turnbuckle design is the most serviceable and easiest to work with.
The in-deck lighting by EAGLOD is stainless steel and glass and of an excellent construction with great serviceability.
A close-up of the cable rail system by Muzata. These cover plates we glue with standard super-glue.
As you approach the far end you start to notice the slight angle.
We chamfered the corners of the far end for a few reasons, but one of which is the rigitiy it would add to the railings on that end. With the cable wire pulling it together in compression this end of the deck is particularly rock solid.
At sitting level the experience blocks out the ground and roof and you are among the trees.
And the sunsets during construction were awesome and a welcomed experience that added to such a fun build.
